Why I Am So Thrilled About: Alfalfa

We weren’t the only family with an econo-sized bottle of alfalfa tablets in our cupboard in the 90s, were we?

Sometimes a new bottle would appear to replace the old one, yet it was always only half full. It was always understood that those pills were good for my health though. It was like having a good luck talisman around- if we ever DID get sick or feel less than tip top, it would be there for us.

Alfalfa has been a hippy dippy and midwife staple since the 1970s.

It’s nutrient dense, so even long before the late twentieth century love for it, it was well known as a superfood as far back as 5000 years ago! Or whatever a superfood was called back then.
Nutrient dense means it’s especially abundant in vitamins, minerals, and phytonutrients that do all kinds of necessary work in our bodies. Nutrients that we often not getting enough of in our normal diets.

Today we know that alfalfa

🌿has an alkalinizing effect on the body

🌿is high in fiber and protein

🌿is rich in B vitamins as well as C, E, K, A and minerals like iron, phosphorous, potassium, and calcium

🌿can be counted on for digestion enhancing enzymes

🌿is a chlorophyl source

That is why I’m super thrilled to have it as a base for HBH’s Formosa Premium Greens Powder!

It took me a long time to find the local sources for the right greens to boost our nutrition and by extension our health!
I sourced green food herbs in Taiwan that were

🌿pesticide-free

🌿locally grown

🌿sustainably harvested

If you’re looking for more reasons add alfalfa leaf to your daily greens here in Taiwan, get a load of these!

Alfalfa

is especially supportive of the urinary system

can help lower bad cholesterol

supports robust iron levels

supports health of the overall digestive system

So tell us ~ did you also have a bottle in the cupboard as a kid, too?
Or do you have any other questions or experiences with alfalfa that you’re keen to share?
